About

IMG_7180.JPG

Shaw holds a degree in three-dimensional fibers, from Massachusetts College of Art & Design.  With prior studies in fashion at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY & Painting at The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University.  Erin draws inspiration from her surroundings, while her affinity to animals and the natural world lend a story to every sketch and 3-D form.  Erin’s illustrations are reminiscent and “fairytale-like”, often capturing the sensitivity of her subject matter. She prefers ink directly to paper or drawing on wood, giving the lines a raw honesty from pen to paper.  Shaw has been exhibiting her illustrations and wearable sculptures faithfully in Boston, New York and Philadelphia for the last decade, recently voted Scout Magazine’s “Best Visual Artist”. Erin’s work has been published in Marie Claire Magazine, Nylon Magazine and Rolling Stone, with recognition in New York fashion week, 2013.

Scouts Honored

“The work of local artist Erin Shaw has an almost otherworldly quality to it—a bit etherial, a little fantastical. Her delightful illustrations are the stuff of fairytales, while her hand-carved wooden rings and brass baubles are gorgeous wearable treasures.”

-Scout Magazine

I favor found materials that I find in nature. Often while beach-combing and walking thru the woods. I have an affinity to fallen bark, antler like tree-limbs, weathered wood & stones-that sparkle in the moonlight. Each piece tends to take on a sacred form and energy when transformed into something new.
Material has always had an intrinsic value that leads me to create a specific piece. The material weighs great importance while contributing to the function, cultural value & consciousness that brims a glimmer of ancestral ambiguity into each of my designs.
